I know what you mean, but living in Toronto (yeah, I'm an evil Canadian) - which now has more visible minorities (mostly 1st and 2nd generation immigrants) than caucasians, you get a feeling for the stuff that immigrants go through. The sense of displacement, the lack of understanding of the rules of social engagement. If you had asked the guy if he loved America (and I'm not suggesting you should have) I'm sure he would have told you how much he loved it.
But he misses Russia (where people stand and talk really close to each other , the Hungarians do that too)
I know what you mean, and I think he was a dick, but criticizing where you live is human nature.
So in conclusion (yeah I know i'm being preachy) you should try to understand but you do have the right to (gently) tell them to get over it

haha you don't sound creepy at all. I live more west, in Suffolk though. Around the Islip area, south shore. My horse is awsome, but I have very little time for him lately. It breaks my heart because I have been working with him for six years and we have both become such a great team. Now I feel like I neglect seeing him. Other people feed him and stuff so it isn't like he isn't taken care of, but I miss getting to spend everyday with him myself. I'm just so busy with school/work.
