oh another fun day at work. for those who do not know, on Sunday and Monday nights (normally) I start around 11:30 PM and get out between 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. I usually have a cashier working with me until 1 AM, and a 6 and 7 AM cashier. outside of that, I run the show myself. during this time I restock candy, run register, and when my 6 AM cashier arrives take care of cardboard, clear the parking lot of carts, and all that fun stuff.
well, the Front End manager has this "cut hours" idea in her head...and I now have a cashier until midnight (hey, when do I take a break...oh, wait, I guess I don't!), a 6 AM and 7:15 AM cashier.
well, last night, I started at 11 PM instead of 11:30 PM due to the fact that we had 1 cashier after 11:30....and she's "turtle slow" (ever go shopping and deal with a cashier who seems to take forever? that's her!). I do my stuff and help out.
at 6 AM...no cashier. I ended up running register like mad. I am scanning 40+ items per minute (the registers show how fast we scan)....I'm flying (in comparison, the company wants cashiers at 14.5 items per minute or higher). and I have a line....yeah, I'm getting hit hard. a 7 AM employee comes in, his job is to clean up the parking lot....he sees the line, sees my performance, and is "Okay, let me get onto register". a few snafus and he is on register. the 7:15 AM cashier arrives, she finally gets on (the register has to re-boot) and by 7:20 AM I am able to get off register and do my morning stuff (bring cardboard to the bailer and such).
finally leave at 8 AM after a long day. do some shopping, leaving the store around 8:15 AM or so....and the Front End Manager arrives. odd....she's supposed to start at 8 AM. figure that one out.
so hopefully she can see the lines and problems generated by her "cut the hours" plan....and maybe we get complaints (I'm keeping comment cards at my register just for this reason) and she realizes that (and here, I am being a little political) we can not operate by doing more with less....aka, we don't have the Republican idea of balancing the budget by cutting taxes. if we do not have the man power, we can not offer the customer service that people say is so important.
oh well....I just work there. and my damn elbow is starting to hurt again. think I messed it up.
and then thinking that I will have another funeral to attend soon. my step-father's father (what do I refer to him as? I've known him my entire life) is 92 years old with Parkinsons, on Morphine, and refusing to eat. his wife died about 2 or 3 years ago. I believe its a matter of time....and hey, at 92 years old, he's lived a long life, done a lot (lots of travel) and seen his 5+ great-grandchildren. I'm pretty sure he's getting to the point where he simply wants to be done. who knows. it'll suck....but, as my younger sister said, he's not living good. he's not having a good quality of life...and he's starting to feel like a burden (he retired from his first job as the Superintendent of the Ginea....is that how its spelled?.....Nuclear Power Plant at RG&E) and hates it.
we shall see.
now time to sleep, wake up...I work tomorrow at 11:15 AM until 5:15 PM and 6:00 AM to 12:45 PM on Thursday. then Friday is a day of playing Heroclix and doing very little Saturday.
and what's up with you?
