on Sunday, I did my first Fantasy Football draft. my cousin is in a "keeper" league where you can keep up to 5 players (and forfeit your 1st round draft pick). he had to go out of town (Akron for a Cinderella concert....ehh, whatever) on Sunday, the same day as the draft, and I had to act as his "proxy". so Saturday we went over strategy (basically what position to pick when) and he highlighted who he wanted.
the results:
he kept:
Tom Brady (QB)
DeSean Jackson (WR)
Freddie Jackson (RB)
Jamal Charles (RB)
Rob Growkowski (TE...the guy from New England)
and here's how I drafted (he wanted ideally 1 more QB, about 3 more RB, 5 WR, 1 TE, 1 Defense, and 1 Kicker):
1st Round - no pick
2nd Round - Benjarvis Green-Ellis (RB)
3rd Round (extra pick due to trade) - A. Stevie Jackson (WR)
B. Pierre Garcon (WR)
4th Round - Robert Meachum (WR)
5th Round - Roy Helu (RB)
6th Round - Lance Moore (WR)
7th Round - Brandon Wheedon (QB). some guy said "Stretch pick" and I responded "He's got Tom Brady, how often do you think Brandon Wheedon will be played?"
8th Round - Daniel Thomas (RB)
9th Round - Buffalo Bills Defense (look at their upgrades)
10th Round - Mario Manningham (WR)
11th Round - Alex Henery (K....Sebastian Janikowski was off the board in the 5th round or so!)
12th Round - Marcel Reese (RB)
my cousin was happy....he got many players he really wanted (Benjarvis Green-Ellis, Stevie Jackon, Pierre Garcon, Roy Helu, Daniel Thomas, and Brandon Wheedon) and noticed some upside of my picks (Robert Meachum is in San Diego who just loss a receiver due to a broken ankle and all the upgrades on the Bills defense). finally, Marcel Reese might be considered a reach, but as a last pick, no big deal. plus, Oakland might have ideas for the guy...and he's 6' 4", about 240 to 250 lbs., and is fast.
and as my cousin said...."you picked a lot of young players...I like it!"
so those who play fantasy football....for a league that allows either 2 RB and 2 WR or 1 RB and 3 WR, how do you think I did for drafting?
