trying to figure out what is wrong with my neighbor's computer. we have this share/share kind of set-up....I fix their computers and provide them DVD's to watch, he helps me fix my car and is teaching me to ride a motorcycle. can't go wrong with that, right?
well, his girlfriend does not update her computer, and tried some coupon website thing. as a result, we have the following error codes (Windows 7 SP 1):
0xc000007b (when trying to update Windows)
0x80004004 (when trying to update and/or run Windows Defender)
the error codes happen when I try to update Windows or Windows Defender.
ran Spybot and got the following removed:
w3i.iq5.fraud
I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster on her computer. Windows Defender will not run (gives the second error code).
suggestions? thanks!

Did you run Malware bytes in safe mode? Not a big fan of Windows Defender. What browser is she using?
mydogfarted:
Common IE hijack. Often happens to Firefox as well. Usually changes the network settings to use some Russian website as a proxy. Try Google Chrome.
