parents out there, and people....when you shop, please keep track of your kids. if there are too many or they are too active, recruit help. something....please!
today, I'm outside, pushing carts. this little girl, no more than 8, is running around outside. we're talking in the parking lot, by the store (where cars drive through), running around. with no adult in sight. I look at the other guy, okay, time to see what's up. I approach her and ask "Are you looking for your parent or someone?"
she tells me "Yes."
I ask "Did you lose them?"
she did. okay....
"How about we go inside to the Service Desk and see if we can find them, okay?"
time to get her inside the store, away from moving cars, and hopefully find the dim-witted parent who lost their child.
walking inside, me keeping an eye on the girl (sorry, not going to have her hold my hand or anything....I'm a male, not going to risk some mom accusing me of ANYTHING), and someone from the Service Desk heard me talking to her and asks "Do you have a little brother as well?"
she did...okay, the Service Desk person has an idea of where the mother is. so I look at the girl and go "How about you go with insert Female Service Desk Person's Name here and she can help you find your mother, okay?"
thankfully, they were able to find her mom.
seriously, though....today I saw many little people (and I'm talking the height where you can not see them over the bumper of your car) running around in the parking lot. me....I've been watching all three of my cousin's children (ages 3 to 9 now) and kept track of them. One holding onto the lanyard on my keys (sticking out of my pocket, him walking in front of me) and the other two each holding a hand. that was until I got to a cart and could put the one kid in the cart. and at all times...the kids were instructed to hold onto the cart AND stay in front of me so I could see them at all times.
seriously, parents, when you are shopping, keep track of the little people for their protection and the employees' sanity!
thank you!

That's what makes you a hero. I've known people who would walk away and say "not my problem".
