so the debt ceiling for the country is about to be hit, and its up to Congress to vote to raise the ceiling or the government has to shut down. this includes stopping payments of tax refunds, military pay, and so forth.
now, some Congressmen feel that, in the name of "fiscal responsibility", they will vote against raising the debt ceiling. I kind of agree, though, since as a younger person (IE, I'm below 40), I will be paying for this for a long time. I do believe that Congress should pave the way, though, and show themselves to be leaders. how so? how about the first thing that stops is the paychecks to the Congressmen. and why did they vote to raise their pay? I think Obama kept his pay at the level it was and took no pay raise. so why does Congress get to raise their own pay when the country is slowly going bankrupt?
just my thought....imagine the work that would be done if Congress knew they were not getting a legitimate paycheck before its done? admittedly, there is always the bribes given to Congress so that big companies don't have to pay taxes or Congress looks the other way with their faulty logic (IE, Oil Companies raising the prices immediately when oil goes up but saying it takes 2 weeks from oil to hit the refineries for it to get to the gas pumps that's why it takes 2 weeks for the prices to drop; or HMO's positing Millions to Billions in profits but saying they need to raise their rates over 10%). however, when some Congressmen are still living large with no paycheck, it might expose some of this corruption.
just a thought....that's all. why should the US people pay for the inability of our Congressmen (who, I do believe are supposed to be the ones making the laws....the President is supposed to be the one enforcing the laws...always wonder why people blame a President for not having strict laws.....ITS NOT HIS JOB TO MAKE THEM!!!) to do their jobs.....
okay, rant over.

For once I would love to see total disclosure on every piece of legislation that is passed. Especially the crappy pork barrel projects that get added on as a rider to pass them. Point out who added what along with a total cost in dollars to the taxpayers and call out the asshole(s) that put them there. Give the President the line item veto back and see how well that works. And you are right, it is not the President's fault to a point. If a shit bill comes across his desk, he should veto it and explain to the people why it was vetoed, especially if it included nonsensical horseshit like pay raises or solely partisan interests that benefit a select group of individuals. Instead of signing off on things for the sake of passing legislation.
