"It's strange that words are so inadequate. Yet, like the asthmatic struggling for breath, so the lover must struggle for words."
-T. S. Eliot
"I was about half in love with her by the time we sat down. That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty... you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are."
-J. D. Salinger
"Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire."
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
"Life is essentially a cheat and its conditions are those of defeat; the redeeming things are not happiness and pleasure but the deeper satisfactions that come out of struggle."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald
"Every adolescent has that dream every century has that dream every revolutionary has that dream, to destroy the family."
-Gertrude Stein
"It is funny that men who are supposed to be scientific cannot get themselves to realise the basic principle of physics, that action and reaction are equal and opposite, that when you persecute people you always rouse them to be strong and stronger."
-Gertrude Stein
Sojourn urinal
The middle of May, maybe even June. I love to forget the time of year in the midst of the spring re-birth. The winter is always discontent. Trapped and blind in the twillight of the collecting dust, the rain, the hard rain must flush, only the hard warm rain. The beauty of winter not lost; there is a childs joy in the open landscape, the perpetual trampling stomping boot upon the fresh powder. The red rickety dogwood sticks of lost leaves slumber a cardinal, and his homely brown and orange wife. A blue-eyed cat walks in its own foot prints. The rabbit back-foot a mattress spring coiled like fire-side love-making, a short white fuse. The watchers we come from a family of cancer in an America of cancer, June and the Argonauts. I am thankful for dead animals and plants alike, drunk upon living.
Ambivalence is impossible right now. There are wild children laughing in the yard. Is it the never-ending wonder of those little legs? The grass inhales every second. The flying object flicked with impeccable precision. Oh to gladly maim and impale my chlorophyll friends. We drink the ferments of yeast. And lose sight, if this isnt heaven and we are not lords of our dominion, who is, and who shall ever be. I will have given earth, children and my death as my answer to humility. I have dared the fall like Lucifer for joyous physics. I smiled and swam with many kinds of sharks. I have preyed upon life, I have had my rib stolen, and I have eaten all too many apples. The serpent has been my dear friend. And yet there is a world to consume, the ocean calls back my head to pull the gravity content. I am tidally locked, warm-blooded and with less fat than ever living in the equivalent of Siberia. I dive into the frozen lake, naked. I hope to warm by the fire in the estrous thumbs of a towhead princess, my ears ringing of a spanish pipedream. John the Baptist is still haunting my dreams.
Jesus was a sailor, and a cohen, and I am also and atheist. If Judaism is not a nationality, I am a rightful citizen of Israel. I was born in the USA. I do what boss says. I am a liar. The tiger lilies were eaten by deer last year, and the rabbits destroyed multitudes of shrubbery. The way of the gun was the answer for us. The murder of crows is a laughing matter. No one was harmed in the making of this. At stake is the heart of vampirism, and maybe rebellion. The bottle spins and my daughter will let someone enter her. I hope she is more selective than her mother, and her mother before that. We are good men who never wanted to have children with the devils maidens. Idle hands are quite the workshop
