One of the greatest directors of all time Robert Altman passed away today...
I was lucky enough to see him live discussing film with Buck Henry and a moderator at the DGA Theatre in Manhattan ...
I somehow got invited to this as part of the "VIP Club" from Vanity Fair magazine .. There was even an after party with free booze and nibbles up high at the Le Parker Meridien hotel ...
Never before have I felt that my invite seemed so bizarre ...
His films were simply brilliant too, of course.
From my favorite, The Player, with Tim Robbins as the arch executive in Hollywood .. to the brilliant Short Cuts with its intercut stories ....
Then there was the 70s with brillance like "Nashville" and "MASH" (an hilarious film) .... Altman provided a unique voice ...
I would also recommend his very interesting piece that felt closer to theater then drama, "Secret Honor" and I even enjoyed Popeye ...
I didn't not like Ready to Wear/Pret a Portet at all though ...
Here is Altman's filmography from IMDB ...
http://imdb.com/name/nm0000265/
and Roger Ebert's tribute ...

I feel so lucky to have talked with him briefly and seen him live.

The beef was fantastic, the potatoes and veggies were even better, but my yorkies didn't rise. They still tasted good though.
