I've been watching as people get tagged for '20 random things about me' and have been learning a lot about those that have posted. I figured I'd join the bandwaggon (tagged or not) and leave a few random things about myself. I've only thought up 10 so far. Enjoy!
1) In the past few years I have taken very little care of myself. As its been said, Your body is your temple and Im only just beginning to do the maintenance. Until this past week I hadnt been to the dentist in years. While at my appointment I found out I have a mouthful of cavities which have come about simply because I havent been watching what I put in it. This, along with limited to no exercise, is also the reason I have gained 50lbs.
Having finally realized all of this, I am hell-bent to refurbish myself. As mentioned, Ive been to the dentist (for a cleaning) and will enjoy their bleaching kit so the doctor can match the color of the fillings with the newly whitened color of my teeth. I have also started walking again. I may have had to take a couple of Ibuprophen after the first walk, but once I master a few simple stretches and log a few more walks in it wont feel so traumatic.
2) I have floor to ceiling shelving that stretches 2/3 of the way across my 14-foot wall. This is where I house most of my books. I love books. I love the smell of books, I love the feel of books, I love books. I go through phases of reading 5 at a time, then nothing for a few weeks or months, then 5 again. One of my biggest dreams would be to have a cabin in the woods overlooking a lake where I can fill the house to brimming with books. I think my reading addiction is part of the reason Im nearsighted.
3) Im a loner. Because I dont have my license (I failed 3 times all due to going too fast through school zones. After the third try I didnt have it in me to try again.) I cant visit with the people I used to know. Im normally a homebody, and that doesnt help either. Although, I have a friend Ive know since I was 6 months old. Ive also met three of my very best friends via the internet.
Ill be in Vancouver November 13th (Sunday) and 14th (Monday) wanna go for drinks or a coffee?
4) I head the Abbotsford chapter of Blankets4Canada (http://www.blankets4canada.ca), which is an organization much like Keep America Warm. We make blankets for those who need them such as battered women shelters. September was our first official month. At the moment its only me and another lady making blankets for our area.
5) Im a member of the Eastern Star and believe in a higher power, but Ive only been to church once or twice in my life. I heard it said in an Origins of Religions class, which was held next door to my statistics class, that you can see it like a mountain and the many religions of the world are the paths leading to the summit. We are all striving to achieve Truth (the summit), but we all have our own paths (paths we feel is the right way) to get there. I joined the Star for two main reasons, the first being that I had seen my grandmother involved in all of the many charitable things the group is known for and wanted to be involved in such things as well, and also (which I realized after joining) because the people there are good-hearted, love me, and miss me when I am unable to attend.
6) I used to tap dance when I was in elementary school. My friend Claire and I tapped at Expo 86 and received a diploma-styled document thanking us for entertaining the crowd, signed by the then Premiere of BC.
7) When I was in elementary school I collected tiny erasers in the shape of animals. Theyd come in lip balm sized tubs. I think I still have some of the ponies around here somewhere.
8) Today I bought a whole outfit (jeans, tshirt, and cardigan) for $16.05.
9) When my Grandmother was cleaning out her house before moving to a retirement home/community she gave me her 25th Anniversary silver platter and a locket that has pictures of my Great-Grandparents inside. Im going to have the locket professionally cleaned and then make a necklace for it.
10) I want the Oral B Triumph toothbrush kit, but it retails for $150US. I searched it on ebay and one thats brand new, never been opened is currently $45US with 12 hours to go. Wish me luck!
