happy love day.
tonight i'm making dinner for my sort of girlfriend. she's a veggie, so cooking for her is a bit of a challenge. i love to cook. most things i make involve meat, so to deviate from that staple AND keep the food interesting is tough. pasta's too boring. i'm thinking grilled polenta with roasted veggies. any advice from other herbavores out there?
so, this vday will be a quiet one. Last year's sucked. my boyfriend at the time didn't even write me a friggin note. the year before that he surprised me with the most romantic night.
he flew in maine lobsters for me (favorite food ever!). when i got home from work, our apartment was candle lit and covered in rose petals. dinner was ready & he had set up the dining room all fancy. not too shabby for a huge, tattooed punk rock boy. my favorite thing was my gift: a chocolate anatomical heart. he knew me so well.
dinner led to other activities in the dining room. A note, for anyone doing the rose petal thing... if anything sweaty or hot is on them for too long, they stain carpet.
the year before that, we spent Valentine's Day at the Punks Vs Psycho's show in Seattle. a lot of the acts cancelled, but Tiger Army was amazing, so were the Necromantics and Graveyard Shift. now that's romance.
hope you all have fun tonight. i know i will.
I have never had a good, romantic v-day.
this year, i bought myself Joni Mitchell's "court and spark" (A childhood fave of mine) and am about to go on a photo taking adventure.
I have been essentially a veg head for the past year (trace elements of meat do reach me, and i don't freak out) . I have gotten pretty good at cooking things so that no one would even question the absense of the meat centerpiece. My motto: when in doubt, spice the fuck out of it. (i live, essentially, on tofu veggie curry)
Good luck and happy V-Day!
