ugh. just got my studio back together after having to tear it apart to bring to my show.... six hours of being moderately active, and I feel like I've been hit by a train... I gotta get more exercise, this is pathetic.
so they always say everything is a learning experience... so here's what I learned tonite:
1: L.A.'s pot holes and expensive recording equipment don't mix... and rain helps the pot holes get bigger and deeper... I felt like a grandma driving to get to and from the gig.
2: always double check your cords and plugs before you leave the house. thank god I was playing somewhere where there was other electronic equipment near by that I could steal power cords from.
3: Progressive House and Breaks don't really go over too well in a trendy shopping mall. I thought maybe since it was the Apple Store that people who shop there would be familiar with the style of music and not have a confused look on their face upon seeing a DJ spin records.
4: remind your friends the day of the show, even if you did send off mad emails to them letting them know to come down. the only people that showed were the people I reminded earlier today... it's partly my fault for having pot head friends I guess.
overall, it was cool... its hard when your used to playing your music in a dark, throbbing club at 2am... playing in a retail store, its almost impossible for you to judge peoples reactions when they are just sitting, watching you play instead of jumping around and dancing.
I should have pictures soon... someone was snapping pictures for the store so I'm gonna track 'em down and steal me some copies.
