I just watched Project Greenlight's first episode. I was thinking about submitting a script this time around, but didn't. I found out late about the deadline and about the condition that the screenplay had to be a horror script. I didn't have a horror script written or enough time to write one.
I guess, it's just as well, since they're really looking for a film that's commercial and easily marketed. While I believe my writing is commercial, I think it's a little too offbeat for the Dimension Films people who are producing the Project Greenlight film this time around.
Over Matt Damon's strenuous objection, the Dimension Films guys chose "Feast," a script about monsters attacking bar patrons. That's it. That's the script's entire premise.
Like it or not, these are the kind of inane, dumbed-down scripts that seIl. The horror script I'm writing has characters and a plot. I despair of ever selling a script in Hollywood.
