I had the most chilled & relaxing week in a long time last week
Despite my own fears & my sisters warnings that a week on my own would drive me mad with boredom I enjoyed every second of it. The weather & surroundings helped a great deal in that admittedly. (The constant strafing by machine gun fire from the helicopter gunships training on the military firing range next door was kinda nice too :p seriously)
I headed straight to my sisters from work on sunday & stayed the night there before heading off 1st thing on monday morning. A relaxing 2 1/2 hour drive, listening to "Paradise Lost" (not sure how much I took in, but it was a nice change from music ) later & I arrived at my camping spot. Literally 30 feet from the sea with one of my favourite views anywhere.
Monday was spent sitting on the beach, reading & generally do nothing
The one thing I always forget about being out away from my usual city living is the stars. I must have sat for about 2 hours just staring at the sky wishing I still had a telescope (I had a basic one a few years ago but dropped & broke it ) I'm sure I spotted a UFO too . I was tracking what I thought was a satellite only for it to suddenly make a 90 degree turn & speed up before vanishing (I may have just drank too much rum though )
Monday night was bloody cold & i gave up trying to sleep & got up at about 5.30am picked up my camera & wandered up to the nearby headland to watch the sunrise.
I love to write about how beautiful it was & how magical a feeling it was but I don't have the words so heres some photos instead
It was back to the tent pick up my fishing gear & heading to my fishing spot for the 1st of many appallingly bad attempts to catch something .
after that it was time for breakfast before following the coastal path around to another ssmall beach where I got busy doing nothing again. I took advantage of the crystal clear skies to take a shitload of photos before getting frustrated with my camera (lack of a wide angle lens, the shitty auto focus being the main reasons .) I really wished I'd borrowed my sisters camera but, I just didn't feel comfortable taking a 1000+ camera camping.
More unsuccessful fishing finished the day &that evening was spent watching the rather spectacular firework display thoughtfully put on by the army next door who were doing some night exercises. the flares were very pretty.
Wednesday was warm but very cloudy so I left the camera in the car all day. I'm sure I must have done something but I can't remember what (other than more fishing anyway).
Thursday started cloudy & warm again so I headed off for a longer walk. Typically the sun reappeared in the late morning & I ended up rather sunburnt
I headed around to the Angle, the fishing village my mothers family is from, on the evening & tried a different fishing spot with the usual result. I took a nice pic though
Friday morning brought wind & rain, which I actually rather enjoyed & a last ditch try to catch a fish (I'll leave you to guess the outcome of that )
It was only when packing up my tent that I realised I'd spent the whole week thinking of absolutely nothing . An entire week spent in an almost mediative state
Its a real shame I had to be back home for friday night. I would have loved to stay another few days but it was good while it lasted.
I said goodbye to my new friend (who kept inviting himself into my tent) & drove the 3 hours back home
Great pics
