This past year I decided to get back into sewing. My grandmother had taught me when I was really young, like she had taught my mother.
For my first few projects, I decided to focus on some really easy DIY shirts - mostly just cutting, braiding, and hand stitching.
Next I'm going to sewing together a three tiered tutu... Mostly just because I've never had one before. I wasn't exactly a girlie girl growing up, so I'll make up for it now.
I'm making slow but steady progress teaching myself. After the tutu, I have a nice corset pattern to set to work on and wouldn't mind picking up a pin up dress project in the future.
For now, I thought I'd share a few pics of those easy DIY shirts I did:
The Jurassic Park one is the only I had to use my machine for. The black collar was made from the sleeves of another shirt that I punched the eyelets into.
The others only require hand stitching to attach the braided pieces.
I'd love for you to share your own DIY clothes projects too. Or any links you may have to your favorite DIY designs - I know there's a ton of ideas out there that are way cooler than what I've managed here so far.
