I meant to blog about my most recent adventure much sooner. Unfortunately, I've felt a little under the weather since returning and have procrastinated. This is probably going to turn into one of those longer than average photo dump / ramble sessions. Hope you don't mind
I had no intention of doing anything exciting, but an early phone call changed that. My friend had a few days off of work and needed a vacation. She told me to back my bags because we were leaving in a couple hours. Spontaneous adventure, who could say no?
I consider myself pretty fortunate that she happens to be one of the few people in my life who really understand my mental health struggles. Also, it helps immensely that she's a nurse. It certainly makes it easier to agree to such a plan (or lack thereof) when you can really trust who you're traveling with. While we generally spend our time watching the gore on the surgery channel (I'm pretty much her only non-nurse friend who can stomach it) - a little road trip seemed like a good change of pace.
The goal: New Orleans.
The journey: Through Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and back again.
We were gone for nearly a week. Meandering through the countryside on our way there and back, we ventured through some really beautiful countryside. I ate alligator, played in the swamp, explored the French Quarter, traveled the dirt back roads between tree farms in the middle of nowhere, and watched the sun set over the Ozark. I even managed to sneak in some time at the pool.
We left winter Iowa to find some semblance of Spring and we found it... only to return to a snow storm.
Once I was trapped indoors again, I decided to pulled the last of the fading purple from my hair (so sad to see it go). I took a picture while it was blonde, simply because someone once told me it was a look I could never pull off. I guess you'll have to be the judge of that.
Oh and I took a photo while I was bleaching - just because I thought you should know what a strange creature I really am
I was feeling some kind of Strawberry Shortcake vibe and decided to do something Pink.
I'm thus far feeling uninspired and have no idea what I'll do to it next - I always love suggestions (if I like the idea, maybe I can work it into a photo shoot ).
Speaking of future shoots -I'm trying to come up with something for my next. I've added some things I'd like to use in future shoots to my Wishlist. Any love there is always appreciated
Since my recent adventures, I've been mostly keeping to myself and my small circle of close friends. I'm not really one for the bar scene or clubs. Once in awhile, I check out some metal concerts (they're cheap and you get to thrash with the unwashed masses - even someone lacking social skills like me can totally fit in there). Otherwise I curl up with a book or play games.
Got to play with my friend's new little python. Their scales are so silky soft and their muscles feel crazy awesome when they are crawling against your skin. I absolutely love them!
My friends surprised me with Meshuggah tickets after we had thought they were sold out. Good people seem to be few and far between. I am a lucky girl to know the ones I do. It was a fantastic show, even saw HeruUr while I was there! Very cool fella.
This is just some billboard we saw on the way... I really have no idea what it's about, I just thought it was awesome. Totally have me a thing for some Dainty Barbarians.
I didn't have the time/space/patience to post all of my photos here, but you can always catch more of my story in real time on twitter @HeathenSuicide or instagram @SaraHeathen
Ending this with a quick thanks to the SG community for giving me a space to share my life - it's one way I'm learning to cope with social anxiety in a safe/accepting environment. It's something I never had before. Thank You
