Looking forward to the new year. I'm hoping to turn it around from the last year. I'll sum up the major good and bad of last year. And then list what is planned for 2011.
2010 (Bad)
1. My best friend, confidant and muse decided to sever our friendship about a month after I helped her move down to Orange County. She just quit talking to me without any warning. Not certain why and probably will never really know. This after we had made many long term and short term plans about starting a production company together.
2. Unemployment runs out. Still no job after 3.5 years of looking. Even considered gong back into the black hole of retail, knowing full well that it would prevent me from working on my photography or film work. Even with a ton of experience doing retail, I got maybe one interview.
3. Had problems raising the money I need for the 'Bellydance Unbound' video project.
4. Didn't shoot any photos I wanted to all last year despite trying on several occasions.
5. Literally spent all of last year trying to find models to model the latex I need to sell on eBay as well as do erotica shoots for Zivity and my 'Gothiphilia' documentary, only to have models never respond or flake on me all year.
6. Feeling forgotten and ignored, reaching out to friends only to be forgotten and ignored.
7. Worked all fall semester at Berkeley City College as a teaching assistant and never got paid (yet).
8. Had to film my documentary for my documentary class by myself as classmates never responded to my requests for help. Then was reprimanded for not using classmates as crew.
9. Not having any interest in anyone wanting to purchase any of my photos on Etsy or anywhere else I advertised the selling of my photos.
2010 (Good)
1. Got the business license for my production and photography studio.
2. Started pre-production on 'Bellydance Unbound'. Despite the unique concept and no one knowing who-the-hell I am, had nearly everyone I asked to be a part of the project actually agree to be part of the project. I love them all. Even filmed a wonderful proof-of-concept video to show people what it is I hope to accomplish with the project: http://www.vimeo.com/16406182
3. Regardless of not having done anything more than shoot the proof-of-concept video for 'Bellydance Unbound' I have been contacted by dancers ranging from Vegas to the UK to ask to be considered as a performer in 'Bellydance Unbound 2', if there is one.
4. Despite having no help, I managed to film the beginnings to a documentary on the Hubba Hubba Revue. My classmates thought it was well shot and edited, though I literally shot and edited most of it a week before it was due at school: http://www.vimeo.com/17789740
5. Made some good friends in the bellydance and burlesque families of the Bay Area. (At least I think I did.)
6. Great time spent with my best friend, confidant and muse helping her move to Orange County and spending a day with her at Disneyland.
2011 (Plans)
1. Build my friendships and make more with those in the bellydance and burlesque families of the Bay Area.
2. Reconnect with friends and make more in the goth/industrial/steampunk families.
3. Reconnect with old friends from work and college.
4. Two week trip to Okinawa and Japan in October.
5. Raise the money and film 'Bellydance Unbound'.
6. Complete filming the documentary on the Hubba Hubba Revue.
7. Start building my production and photography studio and start shooting promotional photos for performers and artists, photos for model portfolios, photos for fashion portfolios, promotion and advertising, music videos for local bands and musicians as well as short films for festival submissions.
8. Shoot more fetish and erotica photos for Zivity, 'Gothiphilia' and model portfolios.
9. Make enough money to be able to live on my own and officially start the separation from my wife that we agreed upon well over a year ago.
10. Improve my skills as a photographer and filmmaker.
I hope to try my best to make things happen this year and really hope I get the my business started and get out more and hang out with friends that don't mind me hanging out with them. I seem to have earned a reputation of being a loner, when I'm not. Loneliness brings out the worst in me. I thrive when I am with friends and loved ones.
This is the year I change the wrong conceptions people have of me. This is the year that life quits giving me the short end of the stick and lets me win one for once. This is the year I am surrounded by friends and loved ones more often than I am alone.
To everyone that was a part of my high points last year, I just wanted to thank you for being a part of them and helping to make me smile.
