Yesterday I went to a meeting of this local transit group. Among other projets, they agitate for a ring metro line. On the way to the meeting, I saw a nifty little battle memorial from the Civil War. It was the only time the Confederacy entered DC, in 1864. It had an anecdote about Lincoln visiting the battlefield, and I immediately remembered an illustration of the scene from a book I read as a child. I think the book also served as the inspiration for the look in Sid Meier's Civil War series. It was cool having so many vivid memories from a marker in a park!
On the way back to the Metro, a sign in the lobby of one closed building caught my eye. It had a no cellphones graphic, and the text said "Radio Transmitters Prohibited." I decided not to look too close, but as I kept on walking, I looked at the windows. They had chainlink fencing painted an unobtrusive color in front of the glass.
