I've used Nikon equipment for about 15 years. While I haven't yet upgraded to a DSLR, Nikon has always had some of the best optics I've seen, second only to Leica. You also get more longevity out of your lenses because Nikon haven't switched their bayonet mount for several years. This is important because lenses are probably the biggest investment you will make and its nice not to have to buy new lenses when you decide to upgrade. As for the D90 itself, I've checked it out at the local camera shop, and its a pretty nice camera. I think it even takes HD video which is a first for a DSLR as far as I know. Hope this helps. If I can be of further assistance just PM me.

the Canon EOS 50D is a top recommendation
