It's spring break and I'm up on Cape Cod enjoying some unseasonably warm weather, spending time with family, visiting all the usual marshes and swamps and beaches, drinking tons of coffee and reviewing some biochem and microbiology (frightening how much I've forgotten :/). And cooking all kinds of shellfish in delicious ways. Pretty much could happily stay here indefinitely, and have people come visit me...

So, just alerted to this great edition of All Songs Considered, reviewing the best metal albums of 2011. This is why NPR is awesome:

Maybe now my friends will stop being confused when I blast the death and doom. Not likely though. Not that I give a fuck. There is some great music on this list though. Somehow had never listened to Tombs until...

Have I mentioned .. I'm onto you and your ways of seducing me with pictures of trees.

I'm down for it, but I'm just saying. I'm onto you.

And yes! I actually read that recently -- that they often work at medical facilities for that very purpose. I thought it was a very interesting crossing of paths between the fields. Or interesting extension and use of th e knowledge of the one.

I'm -wildly- excited for it. Like, .. unendingly, just wildly pumped. I hope to be smartysocks indeed. ^^;

The morning coffee is extra good today.

Some great quotes from the intro psychiatry book I'm reading for an exam tomorrow. Poetry can capture the truth of a phenomenon so much more clearly than lists of diagnostic criteria sometimes.

From the Anxiety chapter:

I stood stunned, my hair rose, the voice stuck in my throat.
-Virgil

From the Psychotic Disorders:

I felt a Cleaving in...

It's a memorial tribute to my uncle wayne. Hence the name and two dates! His birthday and the day he died. He was like my father and my favorite member of my family. I felt it fitting to give him the place over my heart.

Big tests coming up this week, and already in a major study slump. Just not motivated to memorize mountains of crap at this point. Literally, crap - motility in the gut, and rectosphincteric reflexes. Oh well, I'm sure things will end up going ok.

My solution this evening was to ask myself, "what would the Big Lebowski do? - make a White Russian. And so...

Fizzyology! My favorite actually. Although psychopathology is pretty fascinating too.

Thanks! The recipe is pretty foolproof, and cranberries sound delicious. I'll have to try that.

Tattoo: Visually the last one, do you care about what they mean? If so what do they mean?
hawksandherons:
I'm not sure what each one means specifically - not sure anyone does. The mask-like ones were found in hidden-away niches that probably used for ceremonial purposes. Some of them are thousands of years old. To me, they simply bring to mind a place where I feel very alive and free, and remind me that many others had similar thoughts.

It was eerie indeed. I love those trees and have walked between them a million times, but I don't think I've ever noticed just how covered they were. Always distracted by the writing lower down. My whole image of them has shifted now, and I love it.
