Me thinking to myself *don't go over nerdy about Guillermo del Toro on Sg*
Well, the tralier for the new Hellboy released and here we are, this is just simply who I am and I wish people would share more about themselves and have stronger communication on this site anyways. I was very sad to see Hollywood refuse Guillermo the money for the third and final Hellboy that he wanted to create.
Here are my thoughts after seeing the tralier for the reboot. They promised a darker Hellboy when they ripped Hellboy III away from fans, but the tralier doesn't feel darker than the origionals, it doesn't make me feel emerged into a beautiful sci-fi world like the originals, and they just tried to mimic the original humor in hopes of saving it, but the attempts at humor are painful to watch. Something about David Harper's voice, who helms the new Hellboy bugs me and now that we see their version of Hellboy makeup in motion it looks horrible. His cheek prosthetics are too stiff when he talks and his horns are placed so oddly, that it's not nearly as convincing of a creation as the makeup Ron Perlman honed. I rather enjoy David in Stranger Things and finding out he'd be the new Hellboy, as well as the promise of a darker film, were the only two things giving me hope for the reboot.
I remember when they first released images of David's makeup and I thought it looked odd, and looking back at it now I see why the photos were lit the way they were. Also, the weathered paint job on his hand makes it not look like stone, which it's suppose to be.
I feel like instead of watching a tralier to a darker movie that plays homage to the comic books, like we were told it would be, I just watched a tralier for a movie that is heavily paying homage to the old films. Why tell us that the third film Guillermo del Toro wanted to make wouldn't be profitable enough, so you'll give us something darker, and then turn around and TRY to recreate everything that was successful in Guillermo del Toro's formula, such as Harper's painful attempts at Ron's Perlman's humor. The team of this film seem to have no skills at world building which is one of the most cherished aspects of the originals and the gloomy sky's and monster with dull skin tones do not make for the darker movie vibes that were promised. However, I saw one reviewer say that he knows two people who have seen the movie at test veiweings and they both said the movie was very bloody and the tralier doesn't do it justice.
I'm still going to give this movie a try and hope that they just released a bad tralier, but the makeup will always break my heart and I really hope they attempted some kind of world building. I feel so emergered into the world that Guillermo created in the other two films a world were our world, death, hell, and the troll market were all beautifully rendered and intertwined with one another. Yet, it was still convincing do to the love the actors such as Doug Jones who played Abe Sapien put into building their character, and the love that was given to costuming and set design. When I was little I was in love with Lord of the Rings movies for these same reasons, but as I became older they took the second place in l my heart to Guillermo's reimagining of the Hellboy world. He of course isn't the creator of the comic books, but his interpretation of the comics for his movies was spetecaluar.
I must say if any of you loved the first two Hellboy movies, watch Trollhunters on Netflix. You'll once again see the troll market and Guillermo's nack of creature making come to life in this heart felt cartoon.
I had a tooth pulled on Monday and it made me rather sick. I was super nauseous before we got the scripts filled and it last heavily for two days. So, I suspect I had a reaction to the numbing shoots and a hard time getting them fully out of my body, which is very common with me and any kind of narcotic or medicine. I'm still a little nauseous but pain free and very lazy because moving makes me feel worse. So, I'm extra invested in my feelings this week. 🤣
