I'm only editing my journal instead of writing a new one becuase I want people to read aboutt he Whitney Biennial at the bottom.
I feel like I should be in love.
That's how this weather is making me feel.
I sat outside my place for about an hour tonight, just spacing out and enjoying the breeze. Wind chimes and branches made soothing sounds and I wished I was a kid catching fireflies in my Grandparent's back yard.
In honor of this wonderful weather, I'm posting some pics here from two summers ago when i lived in Newport, RI. I started kitesurfing, but I was just screwing around on land. I had to hold my tiny friends to keep them from blowing away. Few things are better than flying on a summertime wind off the ocean.
Went to the Whitney Biennial yesterday. There were some things there that I really enjoyed.
Some highlights:
- A video installation that projected movies of trees. So simple. Four enourmous walls which were the screens. Nice and dark. Soothing sound effects. I guess the whole thing is 9 hours long with different locations being shown all day. I could have stayed in there for hours.
- One artist had made an illustration for every page of "Gravity's Rainbow." And these were Frank Miller quality drawings. I couldn't stop looking at them.
- One artist makes his work by hacking old Nintendo 8-bit cartidge games. He had a projected skyscape up on the wall that was only the clouds from Super Mario Brothers. Cool to see what had once been "cutting edge" when I was a kid now be old school technology. The artist also covered a popular techno song using the notes from the game. Layered beats and everytthing. When I put on the headphones to hear it, I laughed.
A lot of great stuff, but they weren't showing the thing I wanted to see most of all., whcih was a video intallation about the famous Valesquez painting "Las Meninas." I'm going back again soon jut to catch that (got a free ticket becuase I told the staff the main reason I had come was to see that installation. Kind)
