Marketing gimmick shenanigans pretty much confirmed at this point.
The powers that be are officially claiming it as a billing error or some such, but the number of account re-activations and the fact that they're all from the early years of SG (2004-05) pretty much points to an attempt to get old members interested in the site again.
Not that I'm complaining too much mind you...
I just think it would be 100% cooler had it been a more open thing on the part of SG. From what I can tell the site has lost a lot of its old community feel, and staff not being completely honest and open about things like this doesn't help any.
Then again, if it really is a billing error.. whoever handles billing has some 'splanin to do.
