There's a calendar at work that nobody really uses. Sometimes someone will write "this person goes home early" or "this person on vacation" in the various dates but for the most part it's empty.
So I wrote that one of the days was "Black Hole Appreciation Day." I thought it was funny in a dumb way and that no one would really pay attention to it. At most, I expected someone to pass by it and say something like "um, okay" before moving on with his/her life.
But when I went back the next day, two of my co-workers actually stopped me and asked what "Black Hole Appreciation Day" meant.
First co-worker: "Do you mean the black holes up in the sky?"
Me: "Well, yeah. What other kind are there?"
Second co-worker: "Oh, okay. [First co-worker and I] were just confused about what it meant."
I silently laughed about it (so as not to insult them) but almost lost my cool when I noticed that one of them had written "What does this mean? ---->" on the calendar.
No. Seriously.
Then the next day we had a staff meeting and another co-worker took time out to question me about it.
Third co-worker: "You meant black holes from space, right?"
Me: "Yeah."
First co-worker: "See, I told you that's what he probably meant."
Now, I realize the term "black hole" is ambiguous enough to have certain... naughty implications. But, really, am I the one who's missing something or are they just as stupid as I'm thinking they are?
I mean, honestly. It's not like I wrote "Stroke A Rocket Day" or "Kiss The Universe Where The Sun Don't Shine Day."
