You guys, how have you been? Where did the time go? It's almost Christmas and New Years and shit! Before I launch into an update, I have to say THANK YOU FOR LOVING ON MY SET!!!
All of your comments and love hearts have made me so happy and proud, Thankyou from the bottom of my heart❤️
I've been sucked into a domestic vortex and occupied by more 2016 bullshit of death. 4 deaths this year of some very important people for me. Over a period of 6 weeks my Father in Law lost weight, we took him for blood tests, he turned yellow and then died of liver cancer. All in a small gap of unprepared time! We had him out at our place for about 5 days, & then he was in hospital for about 3 days. I've never sat with someone as they died. It's pretty intense. I've attended the birth of a child and it was the same type of privlage, but a much darker experience. Of course I found a few feathers during this time..
It's been an emotional rollercoaster this year and all I can say is bring on 2017 and the year of the Rooster! This past year has been a little too much for me and so many people I know. It can only go up from here right?!!
The positives are, I've nearly made it 7 months of no marijuana smoking! I feel so good about that and I'm managaing to live life through all of these turmoils without it, so I think I am much stronger than I've given myself credit for! Also speaking of strength, I've re-joined a gym! I've got a few PT sessions booked and I'm getting geared up for a healthy start with body, mind & spirit ❤️ As far as holidays go, we're headed to the coast to go camping soon after Christmas and only have a few days off work here and there. I love the Australian coast it's so beautiful and unless you're in Sydney it's usually pretty sparse of people too, so can't wait for that time to connect. The cafe I work at never really shuts, only Christmas Day. We had our staff Christmas party the other night which was awesome, here's my mate and I, last ones standing with our workmate creeping just behind us😂
What else is happening?? I finished off a piece for an upcoming exhibition that's coinciding with our bi-annual Australian Glass conference in January. The piece is part of a group show that is organized kind of like Chinese Whispers. So the 1st artist told the next artist in line what they were making, and you're meant to respond to that piece, make your own, and then pass it along. The exhibition is called 'Refraction' . There's about 20 artists and I'm in the middle of the link. I made this piece called 'Chain Mail'
in response to my friends piece, Kirsti Rea. She made stacked blankets and I've turned her idea of a stack onto its side with mine. I made a gradation of black to clear glass envelopes also to coincide with the title of the exhibition, 'Refraction'. My good mate made the letter sorter out of Silver Ash, an Australian native tree. Here's Kirsti's piece that I was working from:
The artist next in line after me is working on the idea of communication (from the letters) and made a glass tin-can phone. The artist after hers went with the idea of a vessel from the cans, and made a gourd. After him another artist worked with entrapping actual gourd seeds in glass...you get the idea. Should be a good show, I liked the concept of it.
@rambo @missy I'm tagging you because I know you'd appreciate the glass ❤️
Also, Our garden has been going great guns
I love gardening, we have built up raised beds horticulture style. These strawberries are epic! We also have cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, leeks, corn, beetroot, snowpeas, beans, & watermelon growing.
I've also actually picked up a book and am slowly reading it. If you didn't know, about 7 years ago I had a retinal detachment in my left eye and lost most of my vision, especially my peripheral in that eye. They fixed it the best they could, and after a cataract developed they gave me a new lens to enable me to see far away. My other eye, the 'good one' can't see far away at all, so my depth perception is completely fucked. I wear one contact lens and manage to drive and make glass still so that's all that matters! Reading small print however, is near impossible. I'm that person who's got the stupid giant iPhone + with the text switched to Nana viewing at its largest. So book reading normally comes with a kindle on ginormous font. I haven't updated my ancient kindle though, and can no longer work out how to get more books on there so I've given up 😂 I bought this book on the suggestion from @lioness and so far it's amazing you guys
It's nice to flip through real pages again anyways.
I hope you've all had a good few months and enjoy your holidays over the next few weeks! I leave you with a giant DJ huntsman spider that was turning the nut and bolt vinyls in my letterbox the other day 😂 Rural livin at its finest
Much love & virtual hugs and kisses 💋
