Hi beautifuls! Gonna be good and do a homework assignment from @missy @rambo @lyxzen & @charmaine ❤️
What Skill Would You Like To Aquire?
So many!! I think most of you know already I'm a Glass Artist (for nearly 20 years!) and glass is such an amazing material you guys!!!! Working in the medium, there are soooooo many different ways to achieve various results & really, the possibilities are endless! Here's me & my beautiful mate working in our element when we were helping teach a sculpting class at Pilchuck Glass School a few weeks ago:
So in glass making, there are heaps of techniques you can learn to add to your repertoire as an artist. At the moment I have a variety of skills under my belt, but am dying to learn a few more. The best thing about the glass community is people are so generous with sharing their knowledge. I trained as a lampworker (I was a Snodgrass apprentice) & started by making parephenelia at the torch like this:
But after I went to art school was using my lamp working skills & techniques to make art work more like this:
Making the matches at the torch...I also trained as a Glassblower
I managed to combine some of my lampworking skills with my Glassblowing...
You can also do a technique which is called Lost Wax Casting that has a result like this:
And through my travels I have also learned how to do Kiln Forming, which I used to make these envelopes (along with sandblasting)..
I often get mates to help me make components for my work, for example, this piece the metal work & woodwork was outsourced. Then I made the other parts using various techniques: glassblowing, sandblasting, & the iPod is kilnformed.
So by now you're probably wondering, WHAT THE FUCK IS THE NEW SKILL DUDE?!?!?
I wanna learn how to screen print on glass! You can fire any image on & it will stay there FOREVER! I have an exhibition coming up in January at Sabbia Gallery & I'd like to make some new work using this new technique I am keen to learn! I'd like to screen an image similar to these onto glass:
Then I'm going to turn it into a wall mounted Glass Flat Screen TV, with a Blown Glass Radio displayed with it
I am lucky to have an amazing community of Glass artists within my reach here in Australia, with an amazing Glass Facility just down the road at the Canberra Glassworks. I will be able to learn this new skill hopefully sooner than later & I can show you guys how it turned out!!!!! Hope you're all having an amazing week. Xoxoxo Harvest
