Well, the new job started. I do whatever graphic design needs to be done on a Mac at a local printshop. It seems nice. I'm not really sure what I think about it yet, but I am learning some computer programs that I didn't know very well before. I'm still learning the ropes. It's a little weird having to be at work at a specific time and punch a time clock. I haven't had to do that since I worked in the library mailroom at the University of Arkansas my first year there when I got my MFA. You had to be at specific places at the right time at the paper, but there was a lot of freedom with the schedule. It is cool be done at the same time every day, although I'm not feeling the getting up early part.
Speaking of the paper, my second to last day there I found out that I was picked as best newspaper photographer of 2007 by the Chautauqua Region Word, an alternative newspaper that is sort of competition to the paper I worked at. My friend got reporter of the year for his coverage of the local art and music scene. These awards were picked by the staff of the Word and it feels good to get some props from people in the biz.
