Cody (my husband and I) have always been adventurers. We love to travel, explore new places, meet new people, and try new foods. After traveling to Belize in March (my first out of country experience!) we realized we wanted a lifestyle of traveling and experiencing things together. We have been through a lot in our short time being married, and we now find ourselves with credit card debt, attainable debt, debt we can definitely pay off, but debt non the less.
We made it our goal to work as hard as we can for the remainder of 2016 and pay off as much of our debt as possible. We live with roommates to help cut down rental costs (Colorado is soo expensive these days.) We also made the decision to buy and convert an old passenger van into a livable space for 2017. This way, we can live rent free, and travel internationally.
Most people don't get it, why the hell would we want to live out of a van. However, we find ourselves asking the question, why not?! It will give us so much freedom next year, we will be living rent free. We will have extra money to pay off the remainders of our credit card debt and hopefully within a year be free from it. We will have the freedom to go and explore wherever we want. Our plan for now is to work 3 months at a time and go explore for a month until we get sick of it. The hardest part for me will be having to leave our dog at my father in laws for the month we are traveling. However, it's so exciting that he will get to be a part of all of our other jouneys. he is like my baby 😀
Downsizing the materialistic things in your life and learning to live with what you have and not above your means is so eye opening. While we have so much to do before we are "nomads" I can't wait for this experience. Society has tried to engrave it our brains that bigger is better, more money and more toys make you a happier person. however, I say fuck that, learn to be one with yourself and nature, memories are so much more expensive than that fast fancy car you think you need. 😘
