I've got an ear infection. It's disgusting. For about a week my head has been stuffy and I've felt like I have a cold; I missed a couple of days of work last week (now there's a tragedy). Then on Monday I suddenly noticed this Lovecraftean goo coming out of my (right) ear. Seriously - it was like something out of Alien. Or Athena's afterbirth (no prizes if you get that one, but I'll be impressed). Working under the assumption that the ears are a part of the body that aren't generally supposed to excrete, I dashed to the NHS clinic right down the street at around 4:30. They were able to fit me in quickly enough (forget about your NHS horror stories). The doctor couldn't actually see my eardrum to tell if it had burst, but she confirmed that it was at least infected and put me on antibiotics. I spent the rest of the day with a wad of tissues crammed into my ear ("I think a piece of cheese has fallen into my ear hole." Who remembers that line?). Kind of a tampon for the ear.
I had a job interview yesterday (ear infection and all). It didn't go too badly; personally, I think I should get the job on the basis of my tie. It was excellent. The position is "e-resources manager," which sounded kind of exciting to me - like the work I did back at Columbia DKV, probably the last (and maybe only) good job I've ever had. But back in the real world, "e-resources manager" is apparently what interlibrary loan clerks are called (and that, boys and girls, is how the anglerfish catches its prey). I've actually worked in an interlibrary loan office and, as library work goes, it's not too bad. Still far enough below my qualifications that I've got a chance of getting the job. I'll know in a couple of days.
I've been trying to post pictures of springtime in Edinburgh on my blog at Myspace but they aren't going up. I have no idea why. I'm doing exactly the same thing I did the last time I posted pictures. The internet hates me. Just take my word for it - the flowers were beautiful, and the penguin parade was cute. Speaking of cute, my pigeons have arrived for breakfast. That's my cue.
