So, I was thinking about a friend today. . .
People who know me well, know the pretty incredible life I've lived so far. And, for a year and a half of my life, one of my closest friends was a three/four year old baby elephant. He's not the one in the photo, but he was about this size when I first met him.
I miss the little guy.
He built up such a trust with me, it was quite amazing. Lot's of times he would actually put himself between me and another person if he thought they would bring me harm, or if they were even bothering me. I was always amazed at the number of things he understood. Elephants are VERY smart. I could say, "Go get that stick and put it in the tire." and he would complete the whole chain of requests.
He had a little sister he'd always tease. She liked playing with me, but he'd get jealous and send her away. (I'd sneak and give her attention when he was occupied with other things.)
One time I found the two of them whacking each other in the heads with sticks, and they were screaming at each other. Little kids fighting! Except, these little kids were the size of a big refrigerator, so to get them to stop doing things... was always a hassle. It was hilarious though, I ran into the fray and took away the sticks and yelled at them both, "Shame on you! You should feel really bad! What the hell were you thinking?! Now each of you go to a corner!" They didn't understand everything, but they understood enough to both offer me their trunks... and then head off to their corners. It took everything in me not to laugh.
I'm not really sharing this with you... I just wrote this because they've been on my mind ALOT lately. I wonder how they're doing?
