The water was so cold it burned his face and hands. The clothes he had worn to protect himself from Jack Frost's tantrum that day now weighed several pounds and threatened to pull him further down into the dark. He struggled in slow motion, twisting and pulling his limbs through what might as well, for all intents and purposes, have been liquid mercury.
Suddenly, his right arm jerked up as if he felt the strange and desperate urge to hail a taxi cab. A sharp pain coarsed through his wrist, he was still tethered to the dog sled! His team was trying to pull him back out! A bewildered, and overcome Superman, he began to soar up into the blue sky and pierce it's white ceiling emerging on the other side out of breath and with a much stronger appreciation for man's best friend. His team ushered him back into the world with yips and barks and the restless tremors caused by their inability to break free from their harnesses and lick his face and nuzzle him with their furry snouts.
Isaiah lunged at his sled with clumsy effort, and wrapped himself in a thick blanket. His fingers trembled greatly, but they were still nimble enough to build a fire. He tore his wet clothes from his body and zipped himself into his extra thermal suit. Moving like he was a hundred years old, Isaiah undid his team's harnesses, the Huskies had calmed themselves in the most professional manner and awaited their new task at hand. Isaiah threw his weather-resistent sleeping bag on the ground and got in. His faithful companions huddled around him and enclosed him with their warmth. Isaiah would be able to travel again soon, but he still wasn't safe. The One was on its way and Isaiah knew his time of reckoning would come soon. He had been given this second chance only so that the terror that stalked him could take it away.
