The Abridged Adventures of Superficial Man
(this story has been altered to read without any genuine excitement or enthusiasm)
I spent too much on records again. I went to Amoeba yesterday and picked up the new Elliott Smith and replaced my copy of E.A.R.'s "Data Rape". An hour later, I impulsively drove down to Santa Cruz to visit my sister. She was napping, so I tried to entertain myself in Santa Cruz for a couple hours. I hate Santa Cruz. I ended up in Street Light records and bought the new Tom Waits and a Can album from 1968.
I see Clinic tonight. I haven't heard their new album yet and I haven't heard the greatest things about it, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how they pull it off live. I won the tickets off KALX, the UC Berkeley radio station, so I'll probably be more accepting of flubs, as I won't be worrying about getting my moneys worth. Tomorrow I see Interpol. Their new album is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. I've been listening to it frequently recently.
Seeing shows, especially good shows, when my band hasn't played in a while kind of bums me out. I want to be the one up there. That thought is always gnawing at the back of my head, keeping me from fully enjoying the experience. It's kind of selfish and egocentric, I know, but then again I have never denied being either of those things.
**update** Autolux opened for Clinic and blew everyone away. As far as I'm concerned that was an Autolux show.
