This picture pretty much sums up what I did yesterday.
A picture is worth a thousand words, eh?
-separate thought-
When someone that looks vaguely familiar at most makes a big deal by honking and waving at you like they're really excited to see an old friend, one has few options. You can keep walking and pretend you didn't notice them and avoid an awkward situation (if it turns out it is someone you run in to fairly frequently):
"Didn't you see me waving?"
"No, if I would have seen you I would have waved back."
You can pause and gawk at them trying to place their face before eventually carrying about your business. Comment 1 does not work in this case.
"You stopped looked right at me, what do you mean you didn't see me?"
The third option of course is to wave emphatically like an idiot or in my case the acknowledgement half wave, which consists of bringing your arm up briefly to form a right angle from your shoulder to your elbow joint, forearm facing upward, thumb, index and middle fingers mostly extended. A safe and half assed way to say, "Yep, I see you."
