I watch too many rock docs. Or, they make too many rock docs. It's hard to decide. My background noise of choice when working tends to be either concert DVDs or rock docs (because they have music in them too). Luckily, on Tuesday, my friend Paul Rachman's doc, "American Hardcore," came out on DVD, giving me more rock doc fun. Already watched the doc a couple times, plus all the extras. Paul, you done real good.
Then, this coming week, there's a new NIN concert DVD coming out. Having watched the available online footage, I can honestly say that, for the first time, I'm upset that I have neither a HD-DVD player or a HD-ready television, because the NIN footage, shot digitally, looks unreal gorgeous.
It's the weekend, I'm mixing vodka and Red Bull. I definitely used too much vodka in the current glass, as I can't taste the Red Bull. Think about that. S'all good though, just preparing myself for the stupor necessary to get through the Academy Awards tomorrow. Being a movie geek compels me to watch. Being a thinking individual compels me to ignore.
Spirit Awards were today and... between "Little Miss Sunshine," "Half Nelson" and "Pan's Labyrinth" bringing in awards, it's hard to see the Spirit Awards as all that independent (considering the same films will be dancing with Oscar tomorrow). Where's the awards for the real indie films? You know, the indie films I watch on a daily basis, the indie films that Film Threat gets sent every week. Where's their awards? The Independent Spirit Awards, at this point, are the adopted, retarded Namibian step-brother of the Golden Globes and Academy Awards...
