London
'twas november fourth... I last held your hand
It seemed the time would last forever
The last time I was in London was two years ago. And I honestly can't decide if either of us has changed.
I'm staying in a hotel on the edge of Hyde Park. The view out the front looks like I own the city. The view out the back belongs to Jack The Ripper. The cobblestone streets with their steaming manhole covers look like they belong in an Iron Maiden video. Very spooky..very cool...
You said don't ever leave
I thought you'd never go
I wish I could just remember your name...
One of the things I love to do when I get to a new city, either on the road or just traveling for the hell of it... is to go for a long fuckin' walk. I have marched across so many great cities and it's really the best way to see them. Plus you get to know your way around... especially if you don't let yourself cheat and use a cab or tube to get home. Eventually Your body just gets it's barings. And if you go too far in the wrong direction your feet will go "Hey asshole. We already went this way! Go left."
you're just a memory now. Like all the one's before.
With your pain I've had to suffer
Your eyes alight with flame and the picture burns
I hear the screams from long ago
I passed a weird bar that I went to the first time I came to London in '94. I met 6 German kids and two of their English friends. They were about my age and we hung out till the wee hours. At the end of the night I walked with them back to their hotel and they were all staying in one room. They had this system of getting in and out of the hotel without the manager knowing there was a herd coming. Well tonight their luck ran out...
Either it was too late or he had suspected before or something but he was waiting for them like a Presbyterian Dad on Prom night. He tried to get them to get 3 more rooms. They could only afford two. One british kid could just go home but the other was from Wales. Her Name was Tori... She was stuck...She went home with me...
Oh let me see you standing in the
shadows once again
I was working for a friend and She had dragged me along on a trip to The UK. I had never been and had always wanted to go. We were renting a house near the Thames. The couple that owned it were supposed to be gone but their travel plans got mixed up and they ended up being their with us. Me, My Friend, Her Daughter and they. It was a full house. Luckily they had both trained as Chefs at the Sorbonne and cooked for us everynight... actually take back the Luckily part.. Their fish pie made me sick as a dog. I spent a week in bed..but that's another story....
I brought Tori back to the house and we snuck up to my room. The ride back had been awkward for me because I was never clear on the protocol for bringing someone "back to my place". Since I don't drink it's always been a very sober decision making process. I didn't know if it was more insulting to assume it was going to lead somewhere or not. Would she be more offended by me making a pass at her or was she expecting it?
My room was tiny but it was perfect for this situation because it had A dresser... a big bed... and a couch...
It was so cramped the couch was about a foot from the bed.
We talked and laughed in the dark. I asked her if I could kiss her and she said yes. As I kissed her I suddenly had this feeling that this would turn out best if this is all that happened.
I layed down on the couch and tried to corral my thoughts. We slept for three hours. Her Train was at seven.
They cry remember, blood-red streaks on
velvet throats at night
The streetlights fanned our trail of fame
through
London London
The memories will never leave me
When I brought her downstairs everyone was up getting breakfast.
When they all turned and saw us in the clothes we were in the night before you could probably hear the record scratch from the street.
I introduced Tori around quickly announced she had a train to catch and we were out the door.
Oh there's some things in life I could never face
The worst is being alone
Sometimes I wish I could have taken your
place my love
You know I don't want to live forever
We stood at the bus stop. One last Hug. She said ...something important...
London London
The fire in your eyes will be bringing me to
London London
All I need is you
The cries in the night keep ringing on in
London London
Calling out to you
I like this town alot
