ok...so I'm back from my mini-vacation. Spent the last four days down in Portland, which prior to this, I had spent a total of six hours in when I went to see Vision of Disorder play there a couple years back.
Sooo...It was very relaxing hanging out down there. I could definitely see myself living there. It's odd how comfortable it felt while I was there, and yet completely foreign. It was like Seattle in someways, but with more roots. I loved all the bridges and some of the architecture down there. It was all in all fun.
Top 5 fun things about this weekend:
1. Seeing Hilary, Nancy and Josh. I see HIl all the time, but I love her to death and never get tired of seeing her. Haven't seen Nancy in forever and Josh even longer, so that was cool.
2. Got to go to the ocean, which I never have done before. We went to Canon beach, and walked around in the water and stuff. COuldn't swim due to healing tattoo....oh well. It still ruled. Waves are awesome.
3. Went to Astoria (you know where Goonies was filmed). That was fun stuff...reciting lines from Goonies while driving around....generally dorkiness.
4. Finding a few dive/punk rock bars to chill in. The Jolly Inn was nice, the Basement Pub was interesting (strangest and yet coolest vibe in that place), and the luck lab (beer + food + tons of dogs to play with= happy mikey).
5. Feeling like I was 18 again and feeling the same emotions when I first moved to Seattle.
Top 5 things that sucked about this weekend:
1. 104 degree weather in Portland sucks balls!
2. Too many dance clubs in downtown Portland....where's all the punk/divey bars? I really need to get peoples info on some cooler bars to go to for my next visit down there.
3. Being told that there would be a 1 cover just to to get a seat at some pancake house Friday night, somewhere in Belmont or something like that. 1 dollar to sit?!??!?!? Fuck that.
4. Not being able to swim in the ocean.
5. Sitting in stop and go traffic from the entrance of Olympia to the last exit of Tacoma for 50 minutes. That's bullshit my friends.
It was a pretty damn good weekend, and the postives very much outweighed the negatives. After this weekend, my urge to stab folks has dropped significantly.
Well....off to practice. Apparently we have a spur of the moment show at our friends house party/monthly show thing.
ta ta y'all.
