I've been meaning to update my blog for the longest time, so I figure today's as good as any day. This morning I rolled out of bed to find the water had been shut off in my building. I was less than impressed obviously. You'd think they would have to give residents some notice when there's work being done on the watermains, but apparently not. I wasn't too eager to head off to work without showering or brushing my teeth, so my co-worker suggested I take a sick day. It's probably been five years since I've called in sick so I suppose I'm due. Looks like it's going to be a long weekend for me!
Since my last post I've been pretty busy. On the weekend I caught Rob Zombie in concert. The Sound Academy was really packed but the show was awesome. The set list was wicked and included a couple of White Zombie tracks and a couple of new tunes as well. I wasn't crazy about Rob's last two albums but I'm looking forward to the new disc (whenever it gets released).
A couple of weeks back I used up the rest of my vacation time and stuck around the city for the most part. During my week off I attended the Stephen King discussion with David Cronenberg. It was a cool evening but I was surprised there wasn't any Q&A at all. Stephen King's newest novel, Under the Dome, sounds pretty intriguing anyway. I also hit the AGO as part of the SG Canada East monthly meet up. A bunch of us had scored free passes so that was pretty sweet. The King Tut exhibit hadn't opened at that point but it was still an interesting afternoon. Wandering around the gallery made me realize I'd forgotten everything I learned in art history class though.
Back in September I took the week of TIFF off as well and managed to see a bunch of celebrities (Megan Fox, David Duchovny, Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Drew Barrymore) and meet some too:

Elisha Cuthbert (24, House of Wax)

Justin Long (Drag Me to Hell, Live Free or Die Hard)

Alia Shawkat (Whip It, Arrested Development)

Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad)
I even saw a few movies. Both Whip It and Micmacs, from the director of Amelie, were fantastic. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was as weird as you'd expect. I think I'd have to see the film a second time to know what to make of it. All in all, I met seven celebs and saw three films so it was a pretty good year for me.
Since I'm working in reverse chronological order here, I guess I should end this with Fan Expo. This was year fifteen for me and even though the show had its share of problems this time around I managed to miss most of the giant line ups and other nonsense. I attended all three days and met both James Kyson Lee (Heroes) and Emma Caulfield (Buffy), who I'd been wanting to meet for years. I also hung out at the SG booth for a bit and wandered the floor with radiofrank, AandP and Kyuketsuki (who is some sort of ninja apparently
). The show has gotten about as big as it can get, for the Metro Toronto Convention Centre anyway, so I'm interested to see what Hobbystar has in the works for 2010. Here are some pics from this year:
