Movies are one of my favourite things. The escapism factor — being able to delve into worlds of fantasy, horror, mystery, animation, noir and so much more — makes the choice of what movie to watch on movie night an extremely hard one. So below I will just list some of my favourites that I have definitely watched more than once.
One rule I have with Christmas movies is they are only to be watched from November 12th to March 31st.
10 Things I Hate About You — Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles are one of the cutest teen comedy couples ever. It’s also not a bad Shakespeare adaptation.
10 Years — A movie about your 10 year high school reunion. Starring a very eclectic cast including Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt, Anthony Mackie and Oscar Isaac. If you don’t watch it at least check out the song Never Had by Oscar Isaac from this movie.
3 Ninjas — A taste of cheesy nineties action-comedy kid-centric martial arts fun. Also include 3 Ninjas Knuckle Up, 3 Ninjas Kick Back and 3 Ninjas High Noon At Mega Mountain.
27 Dresses — RomCom schlock at its best. Katherine Heigl and James Marsden star in this movie about the madness of weddings.
9 to 5 — Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are perfection in their fight for job equality!
Adventures In Babysitting — Don’t fuck with Elizabeth Shue in this crazy 80’s adventure about a night of babysitting that is anything but typical.
Airport — Who knew a movie about a snowed in airport in Chicago could be so entertaining?
A League Of Their Own — The ladies of the all-American baseball league are in top form. Starring Tom Hanks, Lori Petty, Geena Davis and many more.
The American President — Annette Bening and Michael Douglas star in this political drama romance that was one of my mom’s favourite movies. Just give it a shot please?
America’s Sweethearts — A romcom about the troubles of dating in Hollywood.
Anna And The King — A different take on “The King And I” starring Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat. If you don’t like crying at movies I would skip this one.
Annie — The little orphan comic gets a big screen musical. Starring Carol Burnett and Albert Finney. Make sure it’s the 1982 version.
The Apartment — A hapless yes man played wonderfully by Jack Lemmon falls for an elevator operator at his work place played by Shirley MacLaine. The only problem is she’s in love with his boss played by Fred MacMurray. This is the movie that got @noctilucence and I into playing Gin Rummy.
Are You Being Served? — The British comedy show goes on vacation and all hell breaks loose.
A Very Merry Mix Up — A cute Christmas story starring Alicia Witt as a girl with a case of mistaken identity in her fiancés family.
Back To The Future — The whole series is a must watch for any true cinephile. From 80’s thoughts of the far off future to the old west and the 1950’s. There is quite a lot of fun trying to get back to the future.
Beauty Shop — Queen Latifah leads an ensemble cast in my favourite of the Barbershop franchise. If you want a good laugh though Kevin Bacon as Jorge is a trip.
Because I Said So — Diane Keaton plays the overbearing mother to perfection.
Bend It Like Beckham — The movie that almost made me want to try soccer, then I remembered I’m a huge klutz…
Big Business — Lily Tomlin and Bette Midler star as two sets of twins in this comedy.
Big Girls Don’t Cry…They Get Even — The middle child of a dysfunctional family causes her family to come together to try and find her after she runs away. It’s better than my description sounds I promise.
Big Trouble In Little China — John Carpenter directs Kurt Russell in this zany movie about sorcery, abduction, love and monsters.
Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure — My sign off from most of my lives and videos comes from this so of course I couldn’t not include it.
Blue Hawaii — My favourite Elvis movie.
Blended — Of all the movies Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have done together this is my favourite. The plot is wacky but they pull it off.
Blast From The Past — Brendan Fraser is a man out of time in this cute 90’s romcom.
Bombshell — The story of the 2016 sex scandal at FOX.
Book Club — Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen star as a book club who reads 50 Shades of Grey.
Born Yesterday — A millionaire hires his bombshell girlfriend a tutor to class her up. Either the original from 1950 or the 1993 remake are great.
Bowling For Columbine — An interesting documentary about gun control in the US.
Bride Wars — A romcom about the madness of weddings.
Bride & Prejudice — A Bollywood take on the Jane Austen novel Pride & Prejudice.
Bugsy Malone — A mobster movie starring a very young Scott Baio and Jodie Foster.
Burlesque — Cher & Christina Aguilera are amazing in this musical about the world of burlesque clubs.
Bye Bye Birdie — A musical spoof about when Elvis went into the army.
Candleshoe — A mystery movie from Disney in 1977 starring Jodie Foster.
Casino Royale — The spy spoof from 1967.
Center Stage — Ballet, romance and good music. Enough said.
Clue — The best board game movie ever. Not a bad mystery either.
Con Air — John Malkovich is peak madness in this adventure.
Cookie — A cute mobster movie about a mafia princess.
The Court Jester — Danny Kaye stars as Hawkins in this medieval musical adventure.
Crazy Rich Asians — A wonderful current era romcom. Hopefully the sequel will be good if it ever comes out.
Crazy Stupid Love — A love flowchart connects the ensemble cast in this drama romance. At the very least the fight near the climax is worth watching at least once.
The Cutting Edge — Another sports movie that made me almost want to try the sport it is about which happens to be skating this time, but as I said before I’m a huge klutz.
Dante’s Peak — The better (in my opinion) of the 90’s volcano-centric movies.
Dead Poets Society — Robin Williams… “O Captain My Captain” indeed.
Deepwater Horizon — Mark Wahlberg stars in this story of the 2010 disaster.
Demolition Man — Futuristic action cop movie starring Stallone and Snipes. After watching this tell me how you think the three seashells work.
Dick Tracy — Mobsters and detectives jump off the page in this graphic novel turned movie.
Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood — A chick flick drama starring Sandra Bullock as the daughter of a southern belle with a bit of a mysterious past.
Domestic Disturbance — Vince Vaughn plays creepy and evil very well in this thriller from 2001.
Donovan’s Reef — An underrated John Wayne classic from 1963.
Don’t Say A Word — A mystery thriller involving murder, kidnapping and ransom. Brittany Murphy and Michael Douglas star.
I have a lot more movies I love to watch more than once. I will make future blog homework posts about this.
Hope you enjoyed my list so far. XOXO Gyidge.
