Hello friends.
I would just like to state that I am not trying to offend anyone this holiday season. I am an atheist. I support you in your belief of Chritianity or Catholosism (to name two...). I am not a believer. I am not trying to step on your toes or offend you, really I'm not.
But I am trying to express my beliefs. We are very fortunate to live in this country and to have the freedoms that we have. I would ask for your understanding in this matter. Just remember that I am not doing this as a personal vendetta against you and your beliefs.
Bottom line? I think the Bible and all of the related works are really good stories, possibly the first story/fable ever told. Does that mean it's not true? I don't know. But I do know that I haven't seen anything that states that it is true. And that is why I am an atheist. It is easier for me to believe in myself than a man that I have never seen. I am not anti-christianity. I am just not a Christian. I do not mean to degrade your beliefs in any way. It's not my goal to offend you. It is my goal to make you think.
I personally believe that the values Christianity teaches are good. Some people need to be told that they shouldn't kill another human being or lie. Some people just understand that but still need the comfort and the community Christianity develops for them. Others, like myself, have encountered things in this life that have tested their belief system. I was raised an Episcopalian. I don't practice nor believe what was installed into my mind at an early age. I don't believe in pretending to believe because I tried that and I find it more offensive to the people who truly do believe. Therefore, I am stating full fledged, in a clear voice that I AM AN ATHEIST. I hope that you can accept me for who I am. I am in no way expecting you to accept my beliefs, and I would hope that you could see past your beliefs and just be my friend.
Christians, Jews, Atheists, Satanists, Buddhists, Islamics, and Hebrews. I'm sure I am missing a whole lot of religious practices, but to just name a few...We could all get a long if we just agree to disagree and see past our beliefs and just accept one another. Let's give it a try.
Hugs!
