Another week of crazy ups and downs. Still flying high on securing tenure at NYU but dragged down by the fact that a lot of the day to day bullshit remains the same. The next item on my list is to get myself nominated for the Grolier Club--a seriously uptight club for rich book collectors in a townhouse on the upper east side. I have a pretty good shot at it, and when I'm in I'll be able to tell friends to "meet me at my club" for cocktails. They have an open bar every weeknight from 5-7!
I went to a reception there with a friend who is a member on Wednesday night. We drank gin and tonics and talked rare books until the bar shut down then staggered around the city in search of food and more drink. A perfect night.
But I still have to reconcile the fucking petty cash drawer and write the introduction to the Charles Brockden Brown catalogue.
On with the librarianship.

So you are a rare book afficionado? My best friend/ exbf is as well; his sister owns a rare/used bookstore in Tucson. I'm new to NYC; any tips on where to find biblio treasures??
Thanks,
