I've found out how to be a successful manager or assistant manager of a small business. The secret is to stop giving a rat's ass about the needs of your customers and just worry about what's most important for your company, your employees, and yourself, preferably in that order. I had to put the smack down on the bunch of middle school kids who come in every Friday and make a mess and don't clean it up. Yesterday I threatened not to let them back in again if they didn't clean everything up this time, and it worked, and they also left rather abruptly afterward. It was incredible how quiet it became. As long as they don't break anything or chase away the business I'll let them stay and spend a hundred dollars on shit. There's only one way they'll learn to be responsible, though, and by responsible I mean respect the metaphorical coffee shop beat stick. This is only a small beat stick in comparison to the metaphorical beat stick of life, which can land you some serious jail time. I don't have the authroity to wield the metaphorical beat stick of life...yet.
