The promised summery of event of the past couple months are on their way, been holding off on posting to include eye catching photographs. I managed to dump all the photographs from my camera Saturday (much praise to high capacity memory cards) and had started the tedious task of cropping and resizing to post to SG.
Stay tuned, a couple are worth not missing and...

Location Virginia, between Haymarket and Marshall on Route 66, 12-19-2004.
Was driving back from my weekly off-roading outing (drove Tuskers Gap, GWNF). We parked on a ridge and climbed to a watch tower to see the snow rolling in. It was late afternoon and dark by the time we got back onto pavement. Heading back toward Washington D.C. we came upon a ambulance heading east...

It was the worst of times
I got some catching up to do and some pictures to post. The long, drawn out story will come later.

Of things science
When you are standing out on a clear night looking at the twinkling stars, think of time and distance. A star I was intently staring at was 12 billion light years away. That means I am looking at light that was generated 12 billion light years in the past. An event in the past being watched in the future. Makes one think...

Why don't you have a guy on your friend's list named 'Rosencrance' or 'Hamlet'?
alhim:
I remember hearing one time, that even though it is tought that when we percieve the light of something that is 12 billion light years way, then it is light from the past, as it takes so long to reach our eyes, that instead some of the light we are percieving is much more immediate than that. I am going to have to look that up again.

(laughter) Yes a virtual noggin rub! Indeed, it would go a long way towards improving my devilish disposition.
I like the havoc that comes through in your comments. Especially the one with the matresses. I am seriously thinking that has Winfly potential all over it. Moles do suck and while they do have their place, it still bugs the snot out of me. I can see it if there really was some sort of problem down here that needed to be hammered out, but their is no issue here, and that is the reality of it. Argh!
Accident...accident. I'm still thinking he needs to get trapped in to one of our milvans....happens from time to time. Go up there alone and in the snow, the wind kicks up, and the doors shut and you get locked in. Cryogenics.

Hell yes. Acorn fights were the best. We were vicious little creatures too with those things. That brings back some lovely memories though. (grin)

My stupidity lingers. I feel perfect today but was explaining anti-spam rules to a co-worker and totally brain farted all over my explanation. Turned out I was over complicating a very simple solution.

Indeed! It did take some effort, and that is what makes it so wonderful of him.
As to expectations, no, I definitely do not have them of him. My ex-husband was kind enough to lure me in and once we were moved in together, nice things stopped. After 9 years of marriage he still never did figure out my favorite flowers. **shrug**

Complained about the smell of Lillies? Indeed. Shame on her for that one on all counts. Though I have a theory that appreciation is a skill that not every one has.
It is the little things. I also have to learn to allow people to do things as well. I love to surprise people, and to do things for them. It makes me incredibly happy, but I never want people to ever feel like they have to do anything that I can and normally would do myself. I suspect that N will teach me a bit more about that.
The worst gift I ever received was from a boyfriend who gave me a plastic cockroach for my birthday, and a coffee mug for valentines day. Okay, not the kind of stuff a normal girl would want, and my friends were not amused, but at least he tried. That is what counts.
How about you? Any nightmare gifts that you have given or received? What is the nicest surprise you have ever gotten?
~cheers

I woke up this morning feeling like my head was under water.
I know I am not the brightest bulb on the tree today and my under water feeling is turning into a headache.
A smart man would not post to the CE boards till he felt better.

Oh c'mon, much of what appears in the CE Boards is a ponderous amount of intellectual posturing. Wade in w/both feet. Yuk yuk yuk.

I rarely even look at the CE boards. Even on my best days.

Random distruction
I happened upon an article last week that just screamed "truth" on so many different levels.
The relevent section:
I believe a good part of our creativity comes from our inherent cultural and ethnic diversity. Americans are used to working with people of different attitudes, cultures, and racial and ethnic backgrounds. Indeed, we think there is something wrong if our neighborhoods and educational institutions do...

Interesting that you should bring up the culture subject. You were part of that board a couple of weeks ago dealing w/the notion of culture and if America is able to claim one as its own, right. I can't remember, I'll have to check my "Comments." I have my own thoughts on that but I think everyone thought I was a crackpot. Glad you liked the Mencken quotes, hoped somebody would recognize him.
jabberwok:
Yep, I was right, in the "Culturalism" thread, I thought I recognized you, you clever bugger.
An honest man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him.
He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to...

Fair enough.
I would have been devesated to have run over the turtle. I have issues with people who hunt. Baiting bears and the likes. Just frustrates me to no end. I could kill an animal if I was only in mortal danger, and the chances of that ever really happening are slim to none. Humans on the other hand, are a completely different story. I agree with you whole heartedly, and I have no issue ever defending co-workers, family or friends if the occassion calls for it.
It is nice that your company seems to appreciate you as they do. That seems so very rare these days. I am constantly beating my head against the wall here. People we have gotten rid of, that are doing a rotten job, are always getting promoted and a raise. Today I found out some interesting information, it reads more like a horror story really and it is all I can do not to start beating upper management. Sigh.
Anyway, I am all about the flame thrower and locking the fire exits.
