I figured it was time for an update so here it is ya ungrateful bastards.
I work for a major manufacturer of marine inboards and sterndrives. I've worked there for the last six years or so, always in the same area. But soon I'll be moving to a different area at the plant. I'll be going from engine assembly (where I've been a painter for the last two years) to being a finish sander in the die cast area.
Basically I'll be sanding parts that we cast on-site to remove excess metal from the castings and prepare them to be painted and turned into stern drives and what not.
Since it's in the die cast area I'll be in the general vicinity of the ovens used to melt the metals used in the casting process. Which means it'll be rather warm back there. I'm told it sometimes hits 130 degrees in the summer (YAY!). I'm not really looking forward to the heat, but I'll live.
I'll also be moving to second shift, from 3 pm to 11 pm, which I won't mind at all because I hate getting up at 5:00 am.
The upside to this is I'll be getting a decent raise as well as doing work that I'm probably better suited for than what I've been doing.
Oh, and I have good reason to believe that I'll be having company this weekend.
And that makes me happy.

That is all, children.
