So I went to the Houston Zoo today with my fundamentalist Christian father. I pulled up into the parking lot and saw children and SUVs everywhere and knew the day would be arduous. The zoo in itself was awesomethe habitats are large and natural and the animals were cheerful and playful. My father though, was his usual self.
I was close to my father growing up but once I hit 16 we grew farther apart, and now we rarely speak. At one point he remarked on how ugly the camels were and how appropriate it was that they are in the middle east.nice dad.He then remarked on how wonderful America is because of its diversity and how everyone of all colors was there and getting along. I thought yeahok until we all get into our vehicles and the blacks go back to their poor section of town and we go back to the nice and trendy West Houston area. All he could seem to do was fart loudly and talk about the coming apocalypse and how bad the Middle Easterners are and how the U.S. is doing good by spreading democracy. Thats my dad. He then gave me a videotape to watch (which I refuse to) which is made by some fundamentalist conservative about how great it is we are destroying Iraq and how the Christians will reign supreme. No thanks...
We didnt even talk about me being gayhe thinks it will go away
So my day was stressful.
To add to the stress I work in the healthcare fieldanyone in the field will know or has been inundated with the new HIPAA laws, courtesy of Bill Clinton. This law has good intentions but is irritating both the healthcare providers and the patients with loads of paperwork. All the law does is reiterate policies that were already in place at the private level. Now the Drs office cannot use your last name when calling you from the waiting room. They have to hide your name on sign in sheets.I think a schizophrenic came up with this law. People bitch they feel more and more like a number and less like a human beingthen they support this shit. Ugh.it is making my life HELL.
