it's on my list of things to do.
isn't it great having good reason to be a tourist in your own town?
i'm thinking of finding a place to have my birthday party on sunday and inviting the people i know in the neighborhood.
we'll see how that turns out. that's the only reason i entertained the idea of a hotel room, to host people who came in from jersey or something. we'll see. i have time to plan and time to get my tax refund between now and then!
i am determined to fall in love with this city again. dallas is a great place to live, in my opinion, for the most part.
the cost of living is low, the area is diverse and caters to residents... it's difficult to describe, i guess. usually i don't have good things to say about it because it isn't your major thing like nyc or la or chicago...
but you know, it's where i live.
it's interesting how close dallas is to fort worth and how amazingly different they are, but it's kindof refreshing. everything is on such an urban sprawl, though... and the mass transit systems need SERIOUS work. there're so many cities that comprise the actual metroplex and they just don't cooperate as well as i think they could. but traveling around from city to city in order to complete a day's work is not odd for people who live here... thus all the driving.
what to do while you visit dallas really depends on when you visit.
i went to a terrific ballet yesterday... it was called "four of hearts" and actually featured four pieces in one sitting.
i'm going to seek out the music from the ballets.
first was balanchine's serenade featuring music composed by tchaikovsky, who is, of course, one of my favorites. it was really really beautiful. i seriously had chills.
and then there was another one with just two dancers and the pianist. they called it moonbeams and it was gorgeous, as well. the way two people interact with each other - it's like they use the other as their main prop... so cool... ballet dancers are fucking amazing.
and there was this piece that was all male dancers set only to percussion. it was nifty because the percussionists were on platforms behind the dancers and there were some really groovy pieces using mainly the drum kit and then there were some pieces that only used the xylophones. i was impressed. and the male dancers jump SO HIGH!
then there was a piece focusing on swing dance instead of ballet and that was lots of fun. they used one of my favorite songs by the squirrel nut zippers and it was exciting, i sang along under my breath.
yeah. lots to say about nothing, huh?
this has taken me nearly an hour to leave because of work and all. geesh.
so, i'll get back to it.
if i was trying to say something, i said a bunch of other shit instead.
heh.
