Just a note about the Moussaoui verdict.
I've begun to see "conservative" bloggers talk about the "travesty of justice" because Moussaoui wasn't sentenced to death. Putting aside my views on capital punishment (I abhor it) I would like to point out that I think I would prefer death to what Moussaoui is about to endure.
He's likely to serve his sentence in a Federal "SuperMax" prison, probably ADX Florence, which is in Colorado. The prison is already home to convicted terrorists like Ted Kaczynski, Terry Nichols, Richard Reid, Ramzi Yousef, Eric Robert Rudolph, etc. He's also likely to be isolated (for his own "safety" as well as punishment).
That means he'll spend 23 hours per day in a 7x12 cell, which will be his toiled, shower, kitchen and bedroom. He'll get 1 hour "outside" in an exercise cage where he'll only be able to see sky. He'll be unable to talk to other prisoners, he'll be fed through a slot in the solid door, and if he's lucky, he may get a 13" black and white television.
In the meantime, he'll have nothing to do but descend further into madness--but he won't be dying a martyr at the hands of our government. He'll waste away, completely forgotten. I think that is justice.
