Well, this sucks. My cat has kidney disease. I get to inject her with 100 mL of saline solution EVERY DAY, possibly FOREVER. I have 4 IV bags in my room waiting to be dripped into my little cat. She also has to eat special low-protein, low-phosphorus food, and take 2 potassium pills every day. I love the little dirtbag, so obviously I'd rather do this than have her be in pain or dead. The vet said that there's no determinable cause in her case- just luck of the draw, as she put it.
She's only 5. The vet said this shouldn't affect her life span too much, so she should still live another 10-12 years. Man.
Honestly I still have it pretty lucky with her though. She could have FIV, or leukemia, or diabetes, or some illness that made her incontinent. With kidney disease, if I keep up on her care, she should have a pretty normal life.
