I finished reading Dan Brown's 'Digital Fortress' last night.
Worst.Book.Ever. I would say that was worse than 'Talk Nerdy to Me' which I didn't finish.
Dan Brown seems to be obsessed with and enthralled by sixth-grader level codes, puzzles and historical trivia. Maybe it was because I was in high school in the last decade, but I found very few of his 'revelations' new or interesting.
The computer jargon was forced, simplified and often misused, and I'm reasonably sure there was a line about the creator of the internet announcing his invention in there too. (Al Gore mentioned in a Dan Brown book? WOW!)
I'm not even going to go in to the plot.
I need to find something trashy/light to read at night that's not quite that bad where I analyse how terrible it is, but not as good as Terry Pratchett where I don't want to put it down. Both result in not much sleep.

Yeah, I made the polymer clay beads, they are so much fun!
I usually read a magazine in bed, so even if I fall asleep while I'm reading, I don't miss anything that important.
Kurt Vonnegut? He is always insightful and entertaining but never has a particularly strong narrative drive so you don't get a "what will happen next" urge.
The Lindsey Davis Falco novels are always good light reading but can be difficult to put down.
Asimov's Foundation series are all quite episodic so there are plenty of natural breaks at which to stop.
