What species overpopulates it's environment in such a way as to ruin it because it ignores that there is a finite amount of resources and holds it's own survival above the survival of the environment in which it lives in despite the fact that it needs the environment to survive? We do. Humanity makes the mistake of holding social norms and the status quo above the greater good for it's own prolonged survival. May we learn before it is too late. I don't mean to sound cold but aside from a mass loss of human life I don't see how humanity as a whole and it's environment can continue to survive for any prolonged amount of time. There are many reasons and causes but the root problem lies with our own attitude. Humanity in general is uncomfortable with change in socially awkward or uncomfortable situations and really in life. We're also far too capitalist and materialist living extravagant lives because we can. Buy, consume that's all I've grown up knowing at least here in America. We are encouraged every single day innumerable times a day to buy things. All sorts of things. The majority of these things are made from or influenced by oil. Instead of trying to find realistic alternatives to energy, and materials which can sufficiently replace plastics and other oil produced items we continue to use them at an ever increasing and ever alarming rate. People have never been encouraged to slow population growth to help the environment or as a response to a lack of resources in the environment; except in rare and infrequent periods in history such as instances I'm aware of in China's history. This topic is difficult to approach for me because I'm a hypocrite of it. I want to have children and yet simultaneously I feel I must discourage population growth in general because it has to happen for the greater good of humanity. Simply put I strictly believe that no matter what if humanity continues to grow and use resources the same way we are fucked. A finite amount of resources + an ever increasing population = a time period in which a lot of death will occur due to a lack of resources. There can be no other outcome without change from the current way of thinking or a significant change in technology to compensate or change the outcome. If you have thoughts on what I've mentioned or ideas on how to help fix it I'm open to ideas. But we can't exactly promote genocide and humans are naturally inclined to be selfish and help each other no matter how counter productive it may be to our overall survival, but other then a having a brutal/cold solution/attitude toward humans/humanity in general I don't have any logical solutions to this problem.
