I just made it back from the half-a-block location of my neighborhood voting station. That's right, kiddos...I got off of my fat ass and did my civic duty. And it took all of 5 minutes for me to do.
It the grand scheme of things, this election wasnt as crucial. But still, it has its importance. For one thing, the District Attorney position was up for grabs here in Philly Co. Lynne Abraham was seeking re-election, and in my opinion, she is one tough fucking cookie. And the way things have been turning crazy here in the city of brotherly love, it seems important to have a kick-ass D.A. to put some of these jack-ass criminals in perspective.
Beyond that, the other positions of for grab were typical judical spots, local representatives, and city controllers. Linda Carpenter was the ONLY person to actually pull me to the side on the street during her campaign for office, so she got my vote. Well, that and she's affiliated with one of my favorite local Breweries, Yards Brewery. Any lady that supports local beer gets my vote.
People get so caught up in the 'big elections' that they just blow off the smaller ones. What most do not understand is that local politics have much more of an impact in their daily lives than the big boys in washington. You want that hole in your street fixed? Local taxes burning a hole in your wallet? Parking tickets bothering you? Sick of the one day trash pick up? The big whigs in D.C. couldnt give a fuck...its your local politicians that can turn the tide at home. So, get out and vote....
