This years safari to the Texas Badlands in search of music, mayhem, and cheap booze has finally (and regrettably) come to an end. My trek through the wilds of Austins SXSW Music Fest/Conference was glorious at times while painful at others (goddamn Lone Star Beer burns a whole in your gut, I swear). Still, it was a great time with shit loads of bands, a lot of cool folx, and some serious memories to ponder until next years event. Ill have the film developed and the pictures up by this weekI fucking swear. I took pics of each and every band, save for the Stubbs gig list.
As usual, the list of bands that I had to miss was bigger than the ones that I saw. So many bands, so little time. Also, we ended up missing the whole first night of the shows last Wednesday since some fucker decided to bust the window of my friends vehicle out and steal his stereo, all while eating at a chain restaurant two doors down from our hotel. Fucking fuckers. Anyway, the Highlights had to be Sons of Hercules, Yuppie Pricks, and Go Betty Go. A definite runner up award goes to Bedouin Soundclash, and Some Action. But seeing the Sons play was just fucking brilliant and completely unexpected. Those guys are the kings of rock nrolland it only took me 10 years to see em again. Kudos to the owner of Casino el Camino for getting his boys together again.
The two funniest things that happened at SXSW for me: the bouncer at Emos Annex telling us to RUN AWAY BEFORE THE KIDS GET HERE!!!, right as we were making a Bee-line for the exit and as the under 18 year olds were rushing the stage for MXPX *shiver*. The other was the whole Yuppie Pricks show and their comments to the audience and about Jell-o Biafra. You had to be therereally you did. Oh...did I mention I missed the New York Dolls? Fucking alcohol...
Anyway, giglist abbreviated for this years SXSW:
Fair to Midland
Sunk Loto
VCR
Bedouin Soundclash
Go Betty Go
Some Action
Amplified Heat
The Ugly Beats
Sons of Hercules
Yuppie Pricks
Sout Out Louds
Bloc Party
Kasabian
